earrings

Earrings are more than simply ornamental jewellery for the ear lobes ; they represent style, style, and the way somebody sees themself.

Earrings can be gotten in 2 basic forms, pierced and clip-on, and from there they branch out into a good variety of shapes and styles. Of pierced earrings, preferred styles include easy studs, posts with hanging objects hanging off the front, and posts which hold either a round ring or hugged-style earring. Many pierced earrings stick to the ear with a wire running thru the earlobe instead of a post. Clip-on earrings lost much of their acceptance when pierced earrings shot into style in the 1970s, but have since made a return in the decade. Clip-on earrings are just what the name indicates : instead of attaching to the ear with a hole thru the earlobe, they clip on with a spring attachment or screw-in post. Earrings can be worn by both ladies and men of any age.

Many cultures pierce the ears of newly born babies and the earrings are worn long into old age. While fancy, jeweled earrings are usually reserved for evening wear, each other shape and style can be worn with any fashion, either casual or formal, night or day. Earrings are commonly used to signify specialized activities like vacations or parties, and fine jeweled earrings are popular present ideas for birthdays, graduations and marriages. Earrings can boost a hair-style, hanging down with flowing long hair or accentuating a short bob. Earrings are generally believed to have came from Pacific Rim and the Middle East. Both ring and pendant earrings have been discovered which go back to about 2k BC. Pierced earrings date back to traditional Egypt around 1500 BC. Earrings were always an indication of prosperity and wealth, as only well off girls could afford the expensive metals of which earrings were made. Across the Dark Ages and Middle Ages, ladies were often too poor to have earrings and up till late in the Renaissance, earrings were looked on as flashy and unfit for correct ladies. Earrings became favored again in 17th century Europe as styles modified and new concepts were adopted.

Queen Victoria set a trend in 19th century Europe with her long, jeweled earrings. By the middle of the 20 th century, earrings of all sizes and shapes were more predominant than ever, though there had been an obvious distinction between more conservative earrings worn in the daytime, and the more ostentatious earrings worn in the evenings. In the 1970s, pierced earrings gained renown and simultaneously, styles combined and were no longer segregated to either night or day wear. While the renown of earrings has risen and fallen over time, they have constantly been part of fashion.
